The History of F.Meeks & Co

F Meeks & Co was founded in 1829 by a Mr. George Meeks, predominantly selling jewellery and pocket watches. The business was originally based in Birmingham, United Kingdom, where it remains to this day.

In 1850, the business was extended to Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, under the management of George’s brother Mr. John Meeks.

In 1886 Mr. George Findley, George Meeks’ grandson took over the family business. His most recorded achievement under his management was the publishing of an exhaustive illustrated catalogue of watches and jewellery, pictured here.

As years went by the company evolved, providing services such as watch repairs to the trade and public, selling both materials and spare parts. We have honoured this evolution through time and offer these services to our customers today, both for the public and trade. However, the sale of materials and spare parts has reduced and we now only stock obsolete watch parts.

F.Meeks & Co Today

F Meeks & Co today is owned and ran by a small family of 3 generations. The present owners have been involved in horology, antiques, and Objet d’art for over 50 years, with 40 years of this providing expertise in pocket and wrist watches and clocks, including valuation and purchasing, as well as acquiring scientific instruments for museums.

Our shop on Warstone Lane offers a glimpse into a traditional working watch and clock repair shop, which has been used as a backdrop for television and advertisements. We have also provided the film industry with hard-to-find oddities from a by gone age for use as props.

We pride ourselves in a friendly and honest service and can advise you on any queries you may have, whether you are looking to buy a timepiece or have one repaired or are looking to invest in a timepiece. You may simply want to take a look around our store.

We look forward to welcoming you soon.
